This simple bowl-shaped head with the shank welded to its center is capable of grasping the ground and is used extensively for moorings. Its anchor shape creates suction in mud and weedy bottom that can be difficult to break and hold power by sinking into bottom sediment. Its wide-area mushroom cap offers effective holding power. The drain holes between the blades facilitate easy retrieval allowing water and mud to dissipate. But never defend on this mushroom anchor, especially if there's bad weather. It does not apply to boats larger than small sailboats or inflatable boats.
